Stellantis N.V. is a major player in Canada's emerging lithium-ion battery industry, particularly through its joint venture with LG Energy Solution (LGES). In March 2022, Stellantis and LGES announced a significant investment of over $5 billion CAD to establish the first large-scale, domestic electric vehicle battery manufacturing facility in Canada. This joint venture, named NextStar Energy Inc., is constructing a state-of-the-art battery plant in Windsor, Ontario, with production operations scheduled to begin in the first quarter of 2024. The facility aims to have an annual production capacity exceeding 45 gigawatt hours (GWh) and is expected to create approximately 2,500 new jobs in the region. This initiative is part of Stellantis' aggressive electrification strategy, which aims to achieve 50% battery electric vehicle sales in North America by 2030. The NextStar Energy plant will produce leading-edge lithium-ion battery cells and modules to meet a significant portion of Stellantis' vehicle production requirements in North America, positioning Canada as a key player in the North American electric vehicle battery supply chain
