Our 2nd Annual CHARGED Battery Conference brought together industry leaders, innovators, and experts for two days of 34 compelling presentations and dynamic panel discussions with 42 industry experts.
The conference offered invaluable insights into the rapidly evolving battery sector, featuring sessions on cutting-edge topics. Attendees gained a deep understanding of Indigenous Perspectives & Inclusion in the Battery Value Chain, exploring how these viewpoints can shape successful, collaborative projects. The Industry Outlook segment provided a comprehensive analysis of market trends, mineral demand, and electric vehicle production. Additionally, attendees learnt about Connecting Canada’s Regional Battery Hubs, which highlights the strengths of various regional battery hubs and strategies for integrating them into a cohesive national network.
“Canada is one of the few countries in the world that has everything it needs to be a global leader in EV and battery manufacturing: talent, green energy, and critical minerals.”
—The Hon. François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Innovation, Science and Industry
We are grateful for the support of our sponsors, who play a pivotal role in the making of BMAC’s 2nd Annual CHARGED! Battery Conference.
Initiate insightful discussions on the state of the battery and EV industry in Canada and the critical pathways to seizing and maximizing the opportunities ahead
Gather thought leaders from all segments of the ecosystem, from extraction to processing, production and recycling of batteries, to build relationships across the value chain
Create opportunities through education and connection to collaborate and advance projects and support continued growth across the entire battery value chain
In May 2024, the Battery Metals Association of Canada (BMAC) and Energy Futures Lab (EFL) hosted a workshop that brought together Indigenous leaders and battery metal innovators to address the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Call to Action #92. Building from this foundational work, this session will explore key opportunities identified for advancing reconciliation, and forging successful partnerships. In an interactive format, we’ll share essential insights from the workshop, such as the role of curiosity, the importance of shared governance, and mutual learning in creating meaningful and lasting relationships.
With some of the largest lithium brine deposits globally, Western Canada is poised to play a vital role in Canada’s battery value chain. The world's supply chains are shifting and there is a growing opportunity to play a major part. The world looks at Canada as a secure, transparent and favourable jurisdiction to work with. But what is it going to take to capitalize on this resource and how can the west maximize this opportunity? This session aims to provide some perspectives on what the industry in Western Canada could look like, by optimizing the benefits of this resource.
Lithium is not the only resource in the west, nor is it the only opportunity for the west to play a key role in Canada’s battery industry. Learn about some important work that BMAC along with the Transition Accelerator and Energy Futures Lab are doing to identify opportunities in the battery value chain for Western Canada, including assessing how battery hubs or industry clusters could be established to support a more robust value chain ecosystem.
Exploring the diverse funding mechanisms available throughout a project’s life cycle, from tax credits to flow-through shares, government funding programs, and venture and capital markets. A look at the sources of funding and the strategies for accessing them.
This session will look at what it takes to move from project innovation to commercialization. Exploring some of the challenges, opportunities, supports and key partnerships that can foster success.
It’s been nearly two years since Canada's Critical Minerals Strategy was released, and at the end of 2023, consultations began on Canada’s Critical Minerals List, resulting in the release of an updated list in June 2024. What does this mean for the Critical Minerals Strategy today, and what are the strategic initiatives and future pathways for the strategy and associated list going forward? Learn about the steps the government is taking to secure a stable supply of essential minerals.
