Description
Hudbay Minerals has completed mining activities at its 777 mine in Flin Flon, Manitoba, after 18 years of steady production. The company's hydrometallurgical zinc facility in Flin Flon has also been closed after more than 25 years of successful operations. However, Hudbay has announced a partnership with Marubeni, a Japanese company, to carry out mineral exploration in the Flin Flon area, with the potential for future joint ventures. The company's transition to Snow Lake is expected to help deliver a bright future for mining in northern Manitoba.
This exploration partnership aims to access the Flin Flon Greenstone Belt, known as one of the most prospective base metal VMS camps in the world
The Copper Mountain Mine, located south of Princeton, British Columbia, is a conventional open pit, truck and shovel operation. The addition of this mine allowed Hudbay to become the third-largest copper producer in Canada. Hudbay owns 75% of the Copper Mountain Mine, with the remainder owned by Mitsubishi Materials Corporation. The second mine is Lalor Mine located in Manitoba’s Snow Lake that produces gold, zinc, copper, and silver. Hudbay has been actively conducting drilling activities testing the down-plunge gold and copper extensions of the Lalor deposit.
