Description
The Canadian Copper Refinery (CCR), operated by Glencore, is a world-class copper and precious metals refinery located in Montreal East, Quebec, Canada. It has been in operation since 1931 and was previously part of Xstrata Canada before becoming part of the Glencore group. CCR is one of the world's largest copper suppliers, with an annual capacity of approximately 350,000 tonnes of copper cathodes. The facility processes copper anodes from various sources, including Glencore's own smelters, to produce high-purity copper cathodes (99.99% pure) through an electro-refining process. In addition to copper, CCR also recovers precious metals such as gold and silver, as well as other metals and chemicals like selenium, tellurium, copper sulfate, and nickel sulfate. The refinery has undergone significant modernization, including the implementation of automated material handling systems and the adoption of the Kidd Creek Process for permanent cathode technology, making it one of the most advanced and automated copper refineries in the world.
