General Motors Canada

Description

GM Canada, officially known as General Motors of Canada, is a significant player in the Canadian automotive industry and is increasingly involved in the lithium-ion battery supply chain for electric vehicles. Headquartered in Oshawa, Ontario, GM Canada is actively contributing to the company's global transition towards electrification. A key part of this effort is the CAMI Assembly Plant in Ingersoll, Ontario, which has become Canada's first full-scale electric vehicle manufacturing facility. In 2024, CAMI will begin producing battery modules for BrightDrop Zevo electric delivery vans and other Ultium EVs, adding a 400,000 square-foot facility dedicated to battery module assembly. This expansion supports GM's strategy to increase EV production capacity and establish a robust North American EV supply chain. Additionally, GM Canada is involved in securing critical minerals for battery production, as evidenced by its long-term nickel supply agreement with Vale Canada Limited for battery-grade nickel sulfate from a proposed plant in Bécancour, Québec. These initiatives position GM Canada as a crucial component in the company's efforts to build a secure, sustainable, and scalable EV supply chain in North America.
