Description

The Geology and Mineral Resources Engineering Research Centre (E4m) is a research unit of the Faculty of Science and Engineering that reports directly to the Dean. The E4m Centre is a center of expertise and excellence in research and an academic training environment in the field of geology and mineral resources engineering. The Centre also aims to foster collaboration with other research groups in Quebec and Canada and to provide society with specialized services (analysis and expertise) that are not available elsewhere.

The E4m Centre currently has 16 regular members, 18 associate members, 200+ graduate students (regular and associate members), 13 post-doctoral researchers and 3 research professionals and technicians. E4m members can count on research funds of $3.1M per year and on the collaboration of a large number of external researchers through, among others, the DIVEX innovation network, the Canadian Mine Innovation Council (CMIC), FRQNT and NSERC partnership research grants, FRQNT team grants and industrial contracts. Several partnership research grants under the FQR-NT Sustainable Mine program with the support of MERN are held by members of the E4m Centre.

The E4m Centre's thematic is in the field of mineral resources science and engineering, and more specifically in the development of knowledge related to exploration, geomechanics, Mine, mineral Smelters and refineries and environmental aspects of mineral resources. The four (4) main research axes are: geology and exploration of mineral resources, design of Mine works and operations, development and optimization of mineralurgical processes and responsible environmental development of mineral resources.
